Screenshot of game, player has collected multiple memory objects.
Created in the Unity game engine, with scripts written in C# and 3D models made in Autodesk Maya, this experience was built on the fundamental idea of examining the loss of memory through a first-person digital format.
As the player explores through the worlds built out of the memories the main character has, they discover more about who they play as, and the experiences that made up their life.
Memory object hidden in a memory scene
Inspired in part by the now-famous album "Everywhere At The End of Time" by the Caretakers, the game combined my love for making interactive experiences with the fascination with how music and sound changes experiences.
The backbone of travel in game, the radio.
The entire experience is centered around this recurring radio object. The radio is how the player maneuvers through the memories, reflecting the power that music has in Alzheimer's patients.
The project placed as a finalist in the Washington State competition, and I was happy to have created not only a fun little adventure, but also something I feel has greater importance as a means to empathize and understand how hard it is to lose memories. This game was also inspired by my own grandfather, who as this project was being worked on was dealing with a personal struggle against Alzheimer's.
